In this blog we cover what Brexit means for DACTEC’s customers, a brief synopsis of the background and the current implications when receiving chambers and parts.
The UK voted to leave the EU in 2016 and finally left in January 2020.
A Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the UK and the EU came into force on 1 May 2021.
Due to the sensitivity of the only land border between the UK and the EU being between Ireland and Northern Ireland a Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland came into effect on 1 January 2021 with some supplementary agreements to follow.
The Protocol sets out the following:
However, the UK government are talking about introducing legislation overriding parts of the Northern Ireland Protocol agreed by them in 2019.
This is because it keeps Northern Ireland under EU single market rules for goods and imposes checks on goods moving from Britain to Northern Ireland. This was agreed in order to avoid a hard border being created on the island of Ireland.
We do not know how this will pan out but will keep you updated through this blog.
For Customers in the 26 Counties (Southern Ireland) chambers and parts are coming from Weiss Technik Germany and France as normal.
For Customers in the 6 Counties (Northern Ireland) chambers and parts from Weiss Technik Germany and France are coming as normal with no extra paperwork required.
How long this will last and what the future arrangements will be are in the hands of the politicians.
Parts from Weiss UK to Northern Ireland need an invoice with the correct details on it.
DACTEC liaise with Weiss UK to ensure that this is done correctly.
